Program Overview

The Master of Business Administration (MBA) consists of 36 credit hours and includes a mix of courses in general business management, finance, accounting, operations, marketing, and strategy. Toward the end of the program, you’ll complete a capstone course that ties everything together. This project-based experience gives you the chance to apply everything you’ve learned to real business challenges, preparing you to lead with clarity and confidence.

MGT 510 - Strategic Management of Organizational Behavior (3 credit hours)

Strategic Management of Organizational Behavior is designed to form managers that will understand both group and individual performance activity within an organization, domestic or global, and enhance organizational cultures to create positive job structure, performance, communication, motivation, and leadership. The manager, through work done by others, allocates resources, directs activities of others, and makes decisions to attain organizational goals. This course provides an advanced examination of organizational behavior with an emphasis on employee training and retention issues. A case study approach is used as part of this study of advanced management techniques (Offered in Spanish for online programs). 

FIN 510 - Finance (3 credit hours)

This course provides an intensive study of the principles, methods, and practices of financial management in a corporate environment. Students examine the tools used to analyze financial statements, assess risk and return, value financial assets, and evaluate capital budgeting projects. Additional topics include the cost of capital, capital structure decisions, working capital management, and dividend policy, with an emphasis on maximizing shareholder value in both domestic and international markets (Offered in Spanish for online programs).

BUS 510 - Business Communications Management (3 credit hours)

This course focuses on the application of communication as an art, theory, science, and technology within the business environment. Emphasis is placed on the nonverbal aspects of business communication. Significant components of verbal communication are also addressed. Attention is given to the ethical objectives of communication in the managerial environment. Essential techniques and skills needed to become an effective supervisor are identified. Comprehensive discussions of business communication topics are covered in this course to assist students in transitioning into managerial roles. Topics include interpersonal communication, public speaking, ethics, written correspondence, interviews, research, leadership, and small-group communication. FIN 530 - Portfolio Management (3 credit hours)

This course provides a study of securities and markets; analysis of several categories of corporate securities, public securities, and other investments; types of risks and taxes that affect investment policy, timing, selection, and portfolio optimization. The course also explores the decision-making process applied to investment strategy and the daily management of trading portfolios, including asset allocation for individuals and institutions, and evaluating risk versus return (Offered in Spanish for online programs).

MAT 560 - Business Statistics (3 credit hours)

Business Statistics is the science of good decision making in the face of uncertainty through the collection, classification, summary, organization, analysis, and interpretation of two categories of data: descriptive and inferential. It is used in financial analysis, production, and operations in domestic and international business. Through the use of probability, sampling, binomial and normal distributions, interpretation of estimates, confidence intervals, correlation techniques, analysis of variance, etc., business statistics is used to make good and sound decisions for a business. This course discusses descriptive and inferential statistics used to solve complex problems in business and management (Offered in Spanish for online programs). 

ACC 521 - Managerial Accounting (3 credit hours)

This course provides a study of the principles and techniques of accounting data analysis used to assist internal management in planning, decision-making, performance evaluation, and organizational control. It focuses on cost-volume-profit relationships, budgeting processes, cost allocation methods, variance analysis, and operational performance measurement tools. The course deals with the practical application of accounting information to solve complex problems and optimize efficiency in both manufacturing and service-oriented business environments (Offered in Spanish for online programs).

ECN 512 - Managerial Economics (3 credit hours)

A course that presents economic analysis tools used by managers to make increasingly complex business decisions. Concepts discussed include forecasting, regression modeling, cost analysis, and elasticity. Case studies are used to reinforce principles discussed in class. MGT 520 - Organizations and Leadership (3 credit hours)

This course examines the concepts, issues, and practices that comprise the core of organizational leadership from a global perspective. It focuses on managerial functions to maximize efficiency and achieve expected organizational goals in domestic and international markets (Offered in Spanish for online programs).

MKG 521 - Marketing Management (3 credit hours)

A graduate course that utilizes a managerial approach to investigate, among other topics, market analysis, relationships, strategy formulation, the technology adoption life cycle, internet strategies, and the changes in marketing theory and practice in today’s globalized, competitive, and technical environment. The practical application of marketing techniques, activities, and methods are also explored (Offered in Spanish for online programs).

Este curso introduce los conceptos, técnicas y administración en entornos domésticos y globales necesarios para incrementar la eficiencia en la conversión de materiales y mano de obra en bienes y servicios para maximizar las ganancias, abarcando tanto la industria de servicios como la de manufactura. El gerente de operaciones planifica, organiza, coordina y controla los recursos utilizados para producir bienes y servicios, además de dirigir las cadenas de suministro y la logística asociadas. BUS 532 - Business Strategies and Policy Decision Making (3 credit hours)

A study of strategy and how to put together a strategic business plan focusing on the international business activities required to develop the reliable policies and methods to successfully achieve objectives of a company. The course also teaches how to marshal resources for the execution of the plan, how to evaluate the success of a strategy, and learning (Offered in Spanish for online programs).

MGT 550 - Master’s Capstone Course (3 credit hours)

SCNS Course Number MAN 5956

The capstone course is a culminating educational experience in which students apply the knowledge and skills obtained throughout the Master of Business Administration (MBA) program to address real-world business and organizational challenges. Candidates for completion of the MBA degree demonstrate their conceptual, analytical, research, and practical skills through the development of a comprehensive strategic business plan.

Some of the topics incorporated in the project include market analysis, competitive positioning, financial forecasting, operations management, marketing strategy, risk management, and organizational leadership. The capstone project is closely supervised by the capstone faculty, resulting in a complete, professional business strategy developed in good scholarly form with appropriate data, analysis, and references as required by academic standards (Offered in Spanish for online programs).

INT 590* - Graduate Internship and Practicum Experience Capstone (3 credit hours)

Provides advanced experiential learning integrating graduate-level theory with professional practice. Requires analytical written work and a culminating presentation under faculty supervision. The assigned instructor serves as Faculty Supervisor of Record and assigns the final grade. Departmental approval required. Refer to the “Internship and Practicum Experience” section below for further requirements. Minimum 135 internship hours required.
