Mr. Carlos Guerra

Few professionals embody the spirit of a true global citizen quite like Mr. Guerra. Born in Chile and shaped by a lifetime of cross-cultural experience, he has built a distinguished career spanning over 36 years across the international public, private, corporate, academic, and diplomatic sectors — a journey that has taken him from the halls of consulates to the classrooms of universities, and from the boardrooms of global companies to the stages where music meets innovation.

We are honored to welcome Mr. Guerra as our Commencement Guest Speaker and to celebrate him as this year’s recipient of the Faculty of the Year Award — a recognition that reflects not only his professional excellence, but the profound impact he has had on the students fortunate enough to learn from him.

Mr. Guerra currently serves as Director of International Investment at SelectFlorida (SFL), the State of Florida’s official trade and investment organization under Florida Commerce. In this capacity, he champions Florida as a world-class destination for business and investment, overseeing the Latin American, Caribbean, and logistics sectors while partnering with international offices to guide companies looking to grow in the Sunshine State.

His career has been anything but conventional. He has served as Chancellor of the Consulate of Chile in Philadelphia, directed operations at a global shipping company, and co-founded a Miami-based international freight firm. A passionate educator, he designs and teaches courses at higher education institutions in the U.S. and abroad, and currently holds a faculty position at Millenia Atlantic University in Doral, Florida.

Mr. Guerra‘s academic credentials are equally impressive. He holds degrees from the University of Concepción and the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile, a Master of Arts in International Administration from the University of Miami, and has pursued advanced studies at Oxford University, Temple University, and St. Thomas University, among others. He is also a certified specialist in Foreign Direct Investment from the Wavteq Institute in London.

Recognized on three continents, he has received academic, professional, and civic honors in the United States, Spain, and Chile — including distinction by the IRS Mid-Atlantic Region, honorary membership in the prestigious Association of Professionals and Scholars BERESIT in Toledo, Spain, and recognition as both an entrepreneur and Athlete of the Year.

Yet perhaps what sets Mr. Guerra apart most is the breadth of his humanity. He is an accomplished pianist who has developed a one-of-a-kind presentational model connecting music with innovation, bringing that program to audiences that include low-income students and underserved communities. He dedicates meaningful time to mentoring students, professionals, and families navigating their own paths forward.

To today’s graduates, Mr. Guerra is more than a guest speaker — he is a living example of what becomes possible when curiosity, perseverance, and purpose are allowed to cross every border.
